General Rules
Requirements to Play:
* Rules may be subject to change according to registration numbers.
Requirements to Play:
- MUST be an NGHS Student
- This is a Co-ed event (Teams can be made up of both boys and girls)
- Must be signed up on MyPaymentsPlus or Payed in CASH
- Games will be played using half the court.
- Side goals will be used so that there are 4 games going on at the same time.
- Each team consists of 3 players
- There are two divisions (an under and upper classmen). Divisions are determined by the oldest player on each team. For instance, a team of FR-SO-JR will play in the Upper division.
- There are no default times. Games may be played with (2) players as long as the game is started with all 3 players on the court. If a team is unable to field two players at game start, a forfeit will be awarded to the other team.
- No substitution of non-team players is allowed.
- A coinflip will be used to see who gets the ball first.
- The ball will be ‘checked’ at the top of the key after out of bounds violations, any turnovers except steals, fouls, and balls entering the game from another court.
- First to reach 15 points or whichever team has more points after 12 minutes wins. Winner must win by 2 if the score limit is reached.
- Each shot inside the designated arc is 1 point and shots made outside the arc is 2 points.
- After a made basket, the ball goes to the other team. This is not make-it-take-it.
- If a tie occurs at the end of regulation, there will be a 2 minute overtime. Whoever has the most points after the 2 minute time period wins. The whole 2 minute period will be played; reaching 15 points will not end the game. Teams do not have to win by 2 in overtime.
- If double overtime occurs, there will be a sudden death free throw shootout between both teams where each team will alternate shots and players.
- Tournament format is double-elimination.
- Championship Games will be played half-court on the main baskets.
- Jump Balls/Held Balls will result in the Defense obtaining possession.
- If a defensive foul is called, the Offense will get the ball at the top of the key again and will check up with the Defense unless the basket is made. There are “And 1s” meaning if the basket is made while a foul is called, an extra point is granted to the scoring team.
- Volunteers will be present to referee the game; however, in the event no game referee is available, fouls will be called by players on the court. There are no free throws. A supervisor will be watching each game so a team cannot abuse foul calls. Respect the call!
- Each time the ball changes possession, the ball must be taken back behind the arc. This includes airballs. If the ball does not touch the rim, the ball must still be taken back to the arc to begin play (no check necessary).
- After a winner is declared, a member from the winning and losing team will each report the score to a game supervisor so that both teams agree upon a score.
- If a team has lost one game but are in the finals, they must beat the team without a lose twice. If the losers bracket team wins game 1, they will play a "what if match" for 10 minutes. Team with highest score wins.
- 15 balls will be placed around the 3 point line.
- 5 different spots
- 3 balls per spot
- All balls on a rack
- A made shot is 1pt
- 35 seconds to shoot all shots
- A shot does not count if a foot is on the line
- 1 player selected rack is a money round worth 2pts per shot
- Winner is the person with the most points
- Each team will be asked to wear the same color shirt/jersey to the tournament. If opposing teams happen to be the same color, pennies will be provided to wear over one team’s shirts.
- No jewelry is permitted to be worn throughout the tournament. If you have earrings that cannot be taken out, they must be covered with athletic tape to prevent injuries.
